Utah is home to some of the best elk hunting in the world. Season dates run between August and November with opportunities to hunt in the middle of the rut. Hunting a trophy, bugling bull elk in the middle of the rut is hands down one of the most exhilarating experiences that you can have as a hunter. Trophy bulls aren’t the only elk you can hunt however as Utah offers spike and antlerless permits as well.

Elk hunting is becoming more and more popular throughout North America. Obtaining a tag is becoming more and more difficult. Utah’s big game application opens on January 27th, 2022, and results are usually available in mid-May. Of course, preference points play a major role in deciding your draw success. Fortunately, there are additional opportunities to apply or purchase an elk permit.
Conservation Permits
First, conservation permits are available to buy through auction. Conservation permits are 100% tax deductible. These permits are provided by Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources and auction by conservation groups such as Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife. Not only do you get the financial benefit from purchasing these tags, but your money goes directly to Utah’s wildlife management.
